About us
The Passamaquoddy Water District (PWD) was created in 1983 and provides water service to Pleasant Point and Eastport. The source of water is Boyden Lake and it’s watershed. Water is drawn from Boyden Lake and treated at our Water Treatment Plant (WTP). From the WTP, the treated water is pumped into the transmission main, which carries water about 3 miles to Pleasant Point and an additional 3.2 miles to Eastport. An average of 200,000 gallons per day is treated and pumped for distribution. There is a total of 21 miles of distribution system piping ranging in size from 1 inch to 10 inches in diameter.
PWD also has two storage facilities one is Pleasant Point which holds 347,000 gallons of water and one in Eastport which holds 365,000 gallons of water. These are commonly called Standpipes.
PWD currently has an approximation of 618 year round customers and approximation of 110 seasonal customers.
Our year round customers are billed monthly in some cases and quarterly in most cases.
Our seasonal customers are billed annually.
PWD is a Quasi-Municipal District which means ” any governmental unit that includes a portion of a municipality, a single municipality or several municipalities and which is created by law to deliver public service but which is not a general purpose governmental unit”
